Listen, Listen Festival 2022

Listen, Listen is the Vancouver Improvised Arts Society’s one day multidisciplinary festival celebrating improvised arts sparked from joyful spontaneous play. Featuring musicians, dancers, performance artists, and visual artists, this festival showcases some of Vancouver’s finest. A collaboration between artists of different backgrounds, influences, and styles. Buy your ticket, wander through, come and go, sit and enjoy, have a drink, have a snack, go and come back. Artists of many mediums will be playing throughout the exhibit.

Special guests, Empanadas Ilegales, will close the event! Empanadas Ilegales are a descarga (latin jam) band, playing psychedelic cumbia, chicha, free jazz and surf rock. 8-10pm. Come for the immersive improvised experience at 5pm, stay for the super fun Latin dance party! There is no new normal.

Listen, Listen is a process. It’s an exploration of the senses and how they react to different spaces with different people and changing stimuli. It challenges the status quo. Listen, Listen is an invitation to experience something different and see how it affects our environment and all of us within it. Listen, Listen is also AN ALBUM! Some of the artists at the festival also took part in a two-day recording session, along with contributions from several international musicians who recorded remotely, and our digital offering will be available on Bandcamp as of June 3rd!

There will be a free public Listening Workshop and Soundwalk at The Roundhouse from 7-8pm on Thursday, June 2nd. This will be a mind- (and ear-) opening experience led by the fabulous Jenni Schine and Kristin Fung! Open to all! Meet at the reception desk.

This is an all-ages event. A cash bar, serving beer, wine, and cider to 19+ patrons and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks will be available. Free pizza will be served at 6:30pm!
